The LACMA is a major museum space and it hosts a lot of events. Going to the ground is free, but you have to pay to go inside the buildings were some of the exhibits are in. The sheer size of the space is a lot, I recommend going for specific curated exhibits, because they have some great exhibits. This year alone (2018) I saw: City and Cosmos: The Arts of Teotihuacan, Painted in Mexico, 1700 1790: Pinxit Mexici, and 3D: Double Vision. All three were amazing and some of my favorites this year. They participate in free museum days, and you can park on the street to also save on parking. The LACMA is huge, I recommend a solid 3 hours for it, and comfortable shoes
