Note this is for the breakfast menu during the early morning. When it comes to layovers at an airport, it can be uncomfortable. The Monk's Grill provides a standard restuarant feel located in the domestic flight section of Vancouver to pull you out of the standard airport problem of eating in plastic cafeteria chairs or, just as rough, the terminal bench seating.
While the location have a luxurious appearance, ambiance, and price to boot. The Breakfast menu left a lot to be desired. While they were generous with the filling, the egg was slightly rubbery, and filling was unbalanced (a lot of cheese on one end, mushroom on the other).
The hashbrowns were completely unseasoned, which can be a benefit if you want to salt them yourself like me, however salt isn't the only seasoning and they could develop an identity for their dishes to make it more memorable. What was truly disappointing what the sauteed vegetables along side the potatoes. Which consisted of two tiny peices of red pepper and 4 similarly small bits of red onion. They could definitely work on the ratio of potatoes to vegetables in the future.
They had a nice selection of tea, providing a kettle of water, mug, and tea bag separately. The only think the could improve on with the tea/coffee would be coasters or small plates as leaving rings of water/tea is a pet peeve of mine.
The music was nice, and service knowledgeable of when to come and offer a refill. They are however used to fast service, as they brought the bill after 20 minutes and I was still halfway through my meal (the server did say there was no rush, but the contrary impression was given).
I was especially hard on this restuarant as they charged accordingly for such scrutiny, charging $20 for the meal. Picture of meal attached.
