Incredibly inefficient telephone system, not the fault of Selfridges' operators who are obviously given the maddening training instruction "before anything, insist on getting the customer's name and then constantly address them by it."
In spite of this, Selfridges are unable to put you through to anyone in the Oxford Street store, I hung on and waited several times while customer services tried vainly to connect me but was told each time "the store is very busy and cannot reply, please ring again later." There is no direct number for customers to contact, so one can only continue to repeat this rigmarole. Selfridges should take a leaf out of John Lewis' book, John Lewis are prompt, efficient, courteous and their stores actually answer their telephones.
