A must see if your in Baltimore. Equal parts outsider art fair, community center, modern art museum and new age collective, the American Visonary Museum is certainly unrivalled in the D.C.-Baltimore region. Steeped in local flavor, but with a more global outlook, it does live up to its name. Parts of the museum feel straight out of Pee Wees playhouse, and it's sprawling three building complex make it feel like your exploring a campus. Exhibitions subject matter is broad and ambitious, and usually not easy to define in anything less than a paragraph and very conceptual. A very instragram friendly museum with plenty of photo ops.The bar-restaurant upstairs has a great happy hour special ($15 unlimited mimosas, bellinins, or bloody marys) and has quite tasty fair. This is not just a cafe but a carefully curated selection, with some vegan options too. Late night outdoor movies provide another entertaining option, and the museum store is a fun pop culture wonderland that will certainly stroke the nostalgia in us all. All in all a unique space and a highlight of any Baltimore trip.
