I have been involved with Open Arms Housing since its very beginning. I helped raised the money to buy the building, renovate it and then furnish it. I am proud to have been a part of the first "Housing First" project in Washington DC. Many people gave up before we completed the building, saying we could never get permanent supported housing going in the city. We hired the best Executive Director ever and, with her talents, Open Arms now serves 40 women who suffer from mental illness and has expanded from one building to scattered sites around the city.
