Courtney Larae Review of Bridgewater Bistro
We called five minutes prior to arriving at BB on ...
We called five minutes prior to arriving at BB on Sunday morning, to verify that there was no wait, & to ask if we needed to make reservations. We were told by man on the other end that we were OK to walk in, & there was no need for reservations at that time (we got there within five minutes of them opening and there were PLENTY of OPEN table!). Upon walking in, an Elderly Manager (Female, brown hair) looked us up & down with a look of disgust (I'd been in a biking accident the day before so I was unable to look up to her standards apparently) & interrupts me when I say we are there for brunch, with "Reservations!?!?!" I explain that we just called minutes prior & were told it was unnecessary, that we were OK to walk in. At that moment she & the hostess start laughing at me & talking in front of me, my husband & our daughter, implying that I was lying. She proceeds to read me the riot act, telling me that it is Fathers Day (The reason we were there!), & I tell her that is the reason we called ahead and came in at that moment, due to the response of the male I spoke to. She say "even if it weren't Fathers Day" that she was waiting on other wait staff to show up and we had "AT LEAST" a 15 minute wait. Looking around at a nearly empty restaurant I say that we are fine with that small wait. At this point the wait is not the issue. In addition to the restaurant being scarcely populated, we witnessed a staff of approx seven people walking the bottom floor. While waiting, a nicely dressed older woman comes in & asks us if the wait is long. My husband explains to her that we didn't have reservations. She replies that she didn't either and proceeds to walk up to the counter to be seated. The same manager greets her with a smile & explains that its Fathers Day & tells her that her wait shouldn't be long. None of the same chastising, or ridiculing. The Bartender even offers to make her a drink even. All the while, we are treated like trash. Finally after the EXACT 15 minutes, the manager tells her hostess in font of us that she can "tell Courtney and her party that their table is ready". Literally in front of us. The Hostess has taken her queue from her manager, and rudely seats us. I am ready to cry and we are seated. We sit, wait & mull over with disbelief of how we were treated, on FATHERS DAY nonetheless. As we wait we hear the manager barking orders at the hostess, saying that she doesn't want the empty tables to "look ready" to anyone that has walked in and they proceed to shuffle things about and head to the outside seating and put away all of the seating. Such a control freak that she was willing to turn people away that didn't look uppity enough or have reservations. While those that looked the part came in very high maintenance, we are super easy going and just wanted to eat a decent meal.
Our first waitress introduces herself, and soon abandons us and we wait some more. It felt like we were being punished for not making a reservation. In reality we don't live in Astoria and we are just passing through on our way home from Glamping/RV Camping. Due to the aforementioned accident the day before, I didn't have time to make my Husband breakfast before heading back home. At the recommendation of some of our customers/clients we decided to give BB a try. Never have I felt so judged, discriminated against & offended while readily paying upwards of $65 for a party of three for breakfast.
I hope treating well paying customers like garbage was worth it. We are small business owners and cannot even fathom how this woman is the face of this restaurant. She is a horrible, mean person and we will not be back. We plan to share our experience with anyone that brings BB up in the future. We frequent the area and they definitely lost big, even though we are a small party.
On another note, the food was OUTSTANDING as was the value for what we received. If you like to be judged and treated badly, but want good food, this is the place for you!
