My sister was recently in this hospital for 4 days due to an infection. 4 days of nothing but terrible experiences. In the ER the nurse left the needle in her bed and removed all the caps off the syringes with her teeth ( which you see in movies but that's not sterile and if her mouth would've touched the end of the syringe as the cap came off, imagine the chances of infection). Then a needle was left in her bed. As she was moved to another floor (med/surg) she had a good nurse during the day. That night she had terrible experiences with incompetent and rude nurses not understanding that she was a hard stick , which she made clear to everyone she came in contact with. They had a float RN on shift that night (which only came 2 times in 12 hours to check on her) when her IV went bad and she needed a new IV, the RN put a new one in, the new one started to burn and my sister's hand was turning red and she complained to the nurse that something wasn't right, and the nurse turned around in a very condescending way and smiled and said oh ok you want to go ahead and make me put another one, alright lets do it then i'll just have to stick you some more and put another one in. That's when I got the charge nurse involved and she was later transferred to another floor. During this whole stay, no one assessed my sister but once, no one listened to her chest or listened to anything that is required 2 times during a nursing shift. No one did bedside change of shift report. No one did hourly rounding. No one was attentive. Took at least 1 hour to get ice every time it was asked for, took at least 45 minutes to get medication. As a nurse from a different hospital in Houston, this was an absolute disgrace. I do not know if they have a performance improvement coordinator, but lord knows they need one.
