I was a volunteer at the Hilversum Kringlooper, which is under the direction of the Tomingroep for a little over half a year. My time spent there was bitter-sweet, as the staff were lovely people whom I adored... but I took great issue with their treatment, and the lack of support provided by management. Considering one of the Tomingroep's main goals is to help those who would not be able to work under normal conditions, they are often vulnerable to overbearing authorities for one, and adverse situation for another.
So when I was physically assaulted by client, I sat stunned a mortified as the managers' secretary refused to call the cops... and actually tried to tell me that I was forbidden to mention the incident to anyone else!!! What further infuriated and sickened me was the fact that I had already reported this individual twice for trying to enter staff areas of the shop, and several other female employees had gone to management saying that the man had been harassing and possibly stalking them!!!
During my time there (though a volunteer I came as PTSD patient needing to ad purpose to my life) I was personally yelled at, demeaned, and discouraged from filing a report when I was assaulted on the premises... I saw people with chronic injuries pushed into physical labor, and the neurodivergent individuals being tasked with far too much responsibility.
In short, with the only experience I have bing this location, the Tomingroep looks like a means of making slave labor of the most vulnerable members of society, while offering them no dignity or protection.
