I won t give 1 star because I was very satisfied with the promptness when I entered the ER. I can absolutely give a thumbs up for that. However, the overall treatment and outcome was not the best. I m not a doctor but I know myself, when I initially arrived, my blood pressure was extremely high for my age, I was struggling to breath and had a racing heart. I made doctors aware of recent symptoms related to potential acid reflux because again (I know my body). These symptoms brought on trouble with breathing and sleeping which is cause for concern. As ER s do, they ruled out a heart attack and lung failure which I appreciate. The doctor allegedly believed I was having a panic attack and didn t have the guts to come and discuss with me but yet sent in a nurse to answer my questions which was a coward move considering I requested his presence and pay for the service. Since I was so weak, I didn t have it in me to debate so I accepted the nurses diagnosis of a panic attack but expressed to the doctor the need for an emergency GI visit. To no avail. By the grace of God I called all around since he would not use his doctor like judgement to help me after telling him how hard it had been for me to breath. I guess thinking I had no clue what I was talking about. I ended up getting in with a PA who immediately prescribed me medications for acid reflux and ordered a barium swallow which I m quite sure the ER could have assisted with. Needless to say I had esophagitis which was brought on by acid reflux. Esophagitis was potentially trapping my airways, resulting in my inability to swallow etc. Some may not know but depending on how long you allow esophagitis to go untreated, you can lose your life. Needless to say, due to the lack of concern these doctors had for my judgement, I could potentially not be here or could potentially be in need of surgery. Most GIs were booked out but by the grace of God I found my way in. If you look healthy, I don t recommend showing up because they may tell you you re having a panic attack and ignore your requests. Maybe if you look like you re on your last breath, they will better assist you. To add insult to injury it s going on 4 weeks now and I still have a rash from their IV. I ve never in life gotten a rash from an IV.
