My daughter and I did not stay at the hotel, but she had organised a cream tea for my birthday. We arrived on time the restaurant was not very busy and there were two waiters. It was a hot day so a few guests were on the balcony, which we also chose to do,we sat at a table that had not been cleared ,and had a cream tea left on it ,with most of the food left ,which should have set alarm bells ringing. We waited half an hour ,no service, so went to find a waiter he said oh ok ,I will sort it,did not ask if we wanted a drink, sat down again ,another half an hour went by and still nothing.I went into bar and found a waitress she went oh we must have forgotten you, twenty mins later our cream tea turned up.The sandwiches looked as if they had been cut with a rusty razor jagged and falling apart, the filling ,no butter massive chunks of rock hard Brie and a sliver of cucumber, one prawn sandwich the prawns still semi frozen, the scones were burnt could not get a knife through them, the cakes ,tasteless and hard, they bought a pot of tea ,without milk or sugar,no teaspoons, and the jam in a plastic squirt wrapper. We left the food uneaten ,and went to complain, the waitress offered us two glasses of wine which we declined, this had been prepaid so asked for our money back, which she said she could not do,the manager then arrived who also said no,until I got really angry and said you will sort this out now,he blamed everyone but himself, in the end we had to go to reception and get this dealt with.Never ever go this hotel for this cream tea,I have had better food and service at a motorway cafe.the staff incompetent, the manager a waste of time. All in all a truly dreadful experience.
