We stayed in A Casita King for 2 nights, and initially the stay was wonderful. We ate at Oystercatchers and ordered room service. HOWEVER, today before checking out, my husband, two year old and myself went to eat at the breakfast club in the main lobby. After eating the waiter walks up to us and asks if we're employees eating there. Mind you, he asked no other table, all of which were full with patrons. We can only assume because we are a young family, and obviously minorities that we were profiled based on our appearance.
When I approached the front desk and told the clerk that the manner in which the waiter approached us was inappropriate, she responded that "I must understand because the staff received a call that an employee would be eating at the breakfast club."
Um, what do I need to understand? Once again, that because I'm a young minority, I must need to understand it's reasonable that people would assume that I'm an employee?
I then requested to speak to a manager and was directed to Michael Fisch, and upon informing him of the situation he apologized but then asked me if "I thought it was offensive to be an employee?"
No, I don't find it offensive to be an employee. I find it offensive that my family was eating breakfast and when we asked for the check, the waiter automatically assumed we were the employees and that the three surrounding families around us were the patrons.
My family are General Contractors and I am a second year law student. It's 2017, just because we're in our 20's with a child does not mean that we MUST UNDERSTAND that we could be confused with employees. You would think by now a business that relies on its hospitality management would have some sort of training for its employees to not act so ignorantly.
The manager compensated one nights stay, but that does not rectify the disrespect our family felt. It was never about getting a compensated night, we had no problem paying our stay and services. We were just eating breakfast before checking out and instead of leaving happy, we left upset and offended.
When we stayed last month at the Hyatt Regency in Orlando we were treated wonderfully and with respect.
We will not be returning to the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay and will be canceling our second Casita King rental we had booked for June 9th.
