I visited my father in the hospital today in ICU and stopped at the nurses station to get his room. The two ladies at the station told me where to go and I proceeded there. I walked into his room to greet him and he was aware that I was there but could not speak. I waited for a moment and to see if he would eventually say something then decided to go back to the nurses station to get an idea of his status. She told me that his nurse had just transferred another patient but I could wait in his room and she would send her down. I returned to his room sitting in the window seal because my father was in and out. There were about five different members of the staff walking by as I waited. Finally, a gentlemen came in and said ma'am if you are going to be in here then you should be wearing a gown and gloves because my father has something contagious. Not once did the nurses desk say to me that I need to wear a gown and gloves and the sign the was posted was not directly on his door. So now I am furious because of the lack of communication and the possible risk of me catching it and I am pregnant. They need to do a better of job of protecting visitors by making it known when gloves and gowns need to be worn. I pray that I will not get sick but if I do I will be contacting an attorney.
