I have been using SmartVault since late 2014 for Tax Season 2015. They were integrated with ProSeries and had a personal phone session to set up. They had my logo and other information in there and I was up and running. It has been a huge time saver to have client upload their documents vs sending them in. A few years later they added the DocuSign to the Vault.

Fast forward to March 2020 - I believe I was able to pivot faster and get through tax season better than the firms that did not have a client portal.

Over the years - clients know where to go in their vault when they need a copy of their return or a W-2 for a mortgage or other reasons.
My clients information is secure and they are comfortable with the easy to use system. NOTE - I am a solo CPA so I can not speak to how a larger firm would set up the levels of access for staff. It does appear to have that capability in the system.
