I stayed at only two hotels in Kathmandu, and this was the lesser of the two. The free breakfast in the morning was old, repetitive, and not good in the least. The rooms were the worst part. The beds were like sleeping on a yoga mat on the floor. The showers were hot 30% of the time. The A/C ended up leaking and streaming across our floor. And the wifi was incredibly spotty. I'd have been bothered by the constant brown outs too, but that's unavoidable no matter where you are in the city. Every so often you could heard rats or mice scurrying around in the ceiling or walls. The staff worked on plumbing all throughout the day, making all sorts of noise.

The only thing I can say that is good about this place is the lobby/entry area looks nice. However, maybe instead of spending their money on first impressions, they should focus on making sure their guest's stay is pleasant.

I did a trek into the Himalayas a week before and the little teahouses were a dozen times better than here. If you're going to spend $60 (how much we paid) a night on a hotel in Kathmandu, you could do better than Hotel Vaishali.
