Kerr Blake Review of Regional Hospice and Home Care
This Hospice does not live up to the Hospice value...
This Hospice does not live up to the Hospice values but it does value MONEY, getting as much of yours as possible and creating an advertising, community and visual image for those visiting the facility. Unfortunately the basic premises of Hospice care are sorely missing. From the reviews (as stated by another consumer with a horrible experience here) some people have wonderful things to say. I have to wonder why some consumers were treated so much differently than we were. We were told we were kind, loving people who did the very best for our family member but the administrators and social workers here treated us like all we meant to them was dollar signs. We were severely taken advantage of, had questions and calls not answered and have spoken to people who have had similar experiences but they had to leave it all in the past so as not re-visit the anger involved in dealing with this place. They refuse to write reviews or even think of their times with this place so I represent them as well.
Hospice isn't about decorating to the hilt and more living rooms than there are people in the place, security cameras everywhere you turn including two on each porch so not even one moment of peace goes unnoticed by a camera. Nor is it about administrators speaking rudely and loudly to grieving family members or thrusting their personality problems and angry moods onto you. It is supposed to be about caring emotionally and spiritually for the entire family, meeting end of life needs for the patient and seeing that their days are filled with what matters to them. Was our patient ever asked that question? NO. Did we have suggestions for how quality of life could be enhanced and what was needed? Most definitely and it was never done.
What was done was questions asked about whether the food was for us or being ordered for the patient. At $550 per day, we can afford our own snacks --thanks for the insults, innuendos and demeaning comments on top of our untold grief each day we were there. The $550 per day was not what we were quoted at first. The fee was a lower fee until the patient was admitted. Then, somehow, the cost increased for a patient who was no trouble whatsoever and required only minimal care. The first red flag we should have noticed with many more to come. Care was so minimal that the room went uncleaned for days at a time and meal trays were left strewn about the room.
We were admonished for so many things that it was as if the place is run by administrators who thrive on power plays with vulnerable, grieving people. There are so many examples I could list but it only makes my grief and anger at trusting a Hospice (of all places) worse to even think of this place. It is a BUSINESS FIRST and foremost and the surface niceties you see are mostly donated. The place is pretty much run by volunteers doing the work paid employees would do. They were the good part of the place as they were often kind, considerate people with manners and pleasant things to say to very upset people. They were the "human aspect" not the staff with the exception of a few nurses and two aides.
My heartfelt advice to anyone considering this place is ---don't even think of it. Do not consider their at home services either. What you see, the image they portray is very far from reality. Surfaces, when broken, reveal what is underneath. I experienced what is underneath the surface here and urge you to learn from the utter infuriating, soul breaking dissatisfaction and manipulation my family went through. There is better help and people who will not pay you lip service. Please choose those options for your sake and the sake of the ill person you love and want the best for. Take the time to do your research and bear in mind your doctor is being influenced to refer you to Regional. Please consider all options including hospital Hospices where you will not be taken advantage of and robbed financially.
