.My Mother was at Breckenridge Health and Rehab for 4 1/2 years. During this time it seemed I was constantly having to deal with issues. At first when she went on oxygen I walked in one day and she was unresponsive do to not having her oxygen on. When two of her Doctor's prescribed a portable concentrator for her the Nursing Home refused to purchase it. My sister ended up purchasing it as we were tired of walking in and her oxygen tank being empty. The food that they served was worse than the slop one might throw out to the hogs. We ended up taking her food daily or making sure she had something she could eat in her room.....it's sad that when trays are brought in they would say I'm not going to take the lid off cause I know you aren't going to eat it. Sometimes even the staff said they wouldn't eat what was served. She was to take breathing treatments and instead of them giving them to her they would just give her the vials of medicine and have her do them herself. Her concentrator had to have water added to it and on weekends no one bothered to check it.....someone in the family would have to do it or she would have to do it herself. We provided her with all of her personal hygiene products the entire time she was there....when I asked about their policy saying they would reimburse if they didn't like what was furnished. It took 6 months before I ever got an answer on how I was to get reimbursed and then it took over a month for me to be reimbursed once I turned in the receipt. ...and they only paid about 1/3 of what I had spent. I can't imagine what kind of care folks get when they don't have family going in on a daily basis. At first when she went in I had to go in and give her a shower....they only want to shower folks twice a week....not good for folks who like to be clean. They let folks run out of medicine so unless someone knows what they take and when they might go for days with the right meds. Once I even had to go to a local drug store and get the med she needed.....I thought they had got it but she didn't have it for 4 or 5 days. Not sure I would ever want to put another of my loved ones in that particular Nursing Home. They had some caring Nurses and a few aides but for the most part it seemed they were only their for a paycheck and could care less about the residents. Also, they use their own pharmacy so meds are delivered at night.....when if they would go to a local pharmacy they could get the med as soon as it was ordered. When I asked if we could use a local pharmacy I was told I would have to pay for the meds.
