Their insistence that references be given up front is not in line with industry norms, no matter what they say. A recruiter also emailed me 6 minutes before our scheduled call to reschedule (and that after I told her I had a totally open schedule and she picked that time), and laughed at me for a good five seconds after I let her know that giving my references up front is not something I'm willing to do.
