I bought a RAV4 at WFM in Dec 2009. The engine light was on during the test drive. The salesman said he'd get it fixed. When I picked up the car, the engine light was still on. He told me to drive it about sixty miles because the RAV4 had been on the lot for three or more months. That day I did drive it 60 miles; the light was still on!
I returned it for repairs the next day. The mechanic broke the sensor on the exhaust manifold (EM), so WFM had to order a new EM (a day's wait), so WFM (to its credit) gave me a loaner car for free.
I had to fight to get the front headlights replaced because I noticed moisture in them (WFM had washed the car and the outside temp was below freezing).
The sales VP told me she had a new cabin filter with charcoal filters added at no cost! (When I checked a few months later, it was full of leaves and crud, so obviously the filter was not new).
Finally, WFM continued to put those scent strips for the "new car smell." I'm asthmatic so I had to search for the strips to avoid the headaches and sore chest.
Bottom line: I don't think auto dealers have changed since day one.
