I gave birth to both of my kids here. The first time I had an amazing and serene experience with Dr. Zall. With my second I was "poached" from an actual birthcenter to try their new "birthcenter" suites. Not that it matters because the only difference was the bed, but I risked out for reasons that would not have disqualified me from BabyCo. I went in for an AROM (that I was hesitant about) and from intake my birthplan was scoffed at. The intake guy laughed and said, "they say a lot of things," when I mentioned my birthplan. The first L&D nurses were great. But after shift change and the arrival of the doula (Julie) the whole mood shifted. I was rushed through labor and threatened with more interventions if I didn't hurry and deliver. The doula (whose fee was paid for out of pocket) was barely there because she was attending another birth that she prioritized because the other woman was a first time mother. When she was there she only used techniques to speed up labor. She did little to nothing for pain or comfort. It was terribly awkward (pushed constant stimulation) and stressful. I was coached to push waaaay too early and as a result my daughter got stuck in a bad position and was badly bruised (which ended up causing jaundice) and born with a large knot on her head. I wish I would have stayed at BabyCo. I was hoping for a similar experience as I had with my first and we even hired the same doula to try and ensure a great birth experience. Every birth is different but I am disappointed that I didn't receive even close to the same care as I did with my first. My daughter deserved better.
