Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Partners Healthcare ...

Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Partners Healthcare appear to suffer from a lack of morals as well a shameful degree of greed.

I received multiple bills following a stay at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. At the time, there was a lot going on in my life and I just assumed they were billing me appropriately so I just paid what was requested. However, the bills just kept on coming, and I finally came to my senses and contacted my insurance company. They said that because Newton-Wellesley is in-network for me, they have a contract, and Newton-Wellesley/Partners Healthcare is absolutely *not* allowed to bill me for the difference between their desired payment amount and what their contract with the insurance company pays them.

Furthermore, my insurance company representative was very firm when she told me that the hospital *knows* they are not allowed to do this. This means the hospital uses deliberately misleading language on the bills: the bills say "Your insurance has processed this claim and has determined that you are responsible for the balance. Prompt payment for your portion of services is appreciated." I assume this is meant to try to keep you from calling your insurance company to verify things. My insurance company representative said that the last part of the first sentence ("[your insurance] has determined that you are responsible for the balance") is absolutely false, and that I should never have a "portion of services" that I need to pay for.

Shame on you, Newton-Wellesley and Partners Healthcare. If I hadn't received yet another bill out of nowhere almost 8 months after my hospitalization, it might not even have occurred to me to check with my insurance company because I simply assumed you were operating appropriately and ethically. I wonder how many other people you have tricked into paying you. I have told my family and friends and I will post this on every review site I can. I am beyond disappointed in how you operate.
