Speakeasy Ales & Lagers, which now boasts its own tap room: a dark, cozy setting in one of San Francisco's sunniest neighborhoods, which lends itself to daydreams of the days of booze-smuggling conspiracy.

Call or email ahead (they're quite responsive!) and schedule a tour of the warehouse brewing facility where you'll learn ins and outs of large-scale beer brewing and even a few tips for homebrewing. You will also see some brewer humor in the funny signs they have made for each other around the building. Do some tasting ($4-$5) and take home a growler ($15-$20.)
