The Mississippi Kite is protected as an endangered...

The Mississippi Kite is protected as an endangered species. Each year the Kite comes north onto the high plains and kills nearly all the smaller birds along the way. Blue Jays, Robbins, Making Birds; all the lesser birds and their nests are destroyed and eggs eaten.
We need the small birds.
Can someone in the Society explain the logic? Why protect the Kite when it is so destructive?
