I too, feel moved to post a review after reading all the negative posts. I had been looking for an affordable vet after spending many thousands of $$$ over the years at my local vet clinic. My marital situation has changed and I cannot afford to pay the ridiculous fees they charge. A neighbor recommended the Ballantine Blvd. location, so I made an appointment for a check up and vaccination update for my mini Dachshund. Yes, it took me two days of calling before anyone answered the phone and 2-3 weeks before my dog could be seen. And yes, there was a long wait even with the appointment, but the Dr. was extremely nice, the cost much lower than at my former vet and that is a huge plus. I also made an app. for a dental cleaning and that, too, went great and for half the price.
About the staff politeness, I haven't had a problem. I understand that they are overbooked and understaffed and people can be tense under stress. Besides, among the personnel of my former high cost vet clinic there were some very rude people that I had to suffer over 16 years, and they were never as busy as the SPCA people. We need to be patient and consider the good care our pets receive as well as the well being of the many others that need new homes.
The SPCA is for everybody, regardless of their social status. It's not a luxury place nor one for emergencies, you need to take your very sick or injured pet to an emergency hospital. It is the same with many full price vets and big box clinics.
All in all, my experience has been very positive and I'll certainly be returning for my other pets' care.
