Joy Smith Review of Highlands Behavioral Health Sy...
This was our first experience with a behavior heal...
This was our first experience with a behavior health care facility. A few experiences have us concerned about the professionalism and care provided:
1. While I was waiting in the lobby a family left the facility. The employee that was with them turned to me and said my relative would have a bed available because they just got rid of an angry, uncooperative family.
2. The day of intake my relative spent over four hours in the unit's common area, in school desk, in a paper gown, cold and waiting for instruction. This doesn't appear to be the best way to help someone in need. I spoke to the staff to determine the hold-up and was told several times that they are understaffed and would get to my relative as soon as they could. (Positive - the staff was kind and reassuring, it appeared they doing the best they could under the circumstance. This is the only reason for the 2nd star in the rating.)
3. I spoke to the social worker the following day. They initiated the conversation by stating my relative came in with an "entitled attitude". After I explained the situation that occurred the day prior and some additional information they apologized. They stated they would have the patient advocate discuss the situation with the staff and my relative. In addition, the patient advocate would be calling me to discuss both #1 & #2. I did not received a phone call and no one discussed the situation with my relative.
