Fashion etiquette during the 1970's and 80's dicta...

Fashion etiquette during the 1970's and 80's dictated that appropriate dress for the office included high heels being worn all day, every day. As a young woman, I never imagined that I would require surgery to correct the years of abuse I placed on my feet. For over 25 years, I suffered throbbing pain as a result of the development of bunions on both feet. I recall seeing the services of Dr. Sheldon Nadal advertised in Chatelaine and often folded the page corner for future reference.

In 2008, I began exploring the idea of having the bunions on my feet removed and was referred by my family physician to an orthopedic surgeon, who was eager to slice open the top of my feet from toe to ankle to make the corrections required. Needless to say, I got "cold feet" and did not pursue the idea further.

I later learnt that my sister-in-law Cindy, a professional skater, had met with Dr. Nadal and made the decision to have the bunion on her right foot removed. She was so pleased with the care he provided that she encouraged me to make an appointment to see if I was a candidate for his minimally-invasive surgical technique.

By the time I met with Dr. Nadal in 2012, I was a zoomer and not only did I require the removal of the bunions on my feet, but both large toes were misaligned and my left foot overpronated. A bunionectomy on my left foot was scheduled first and three months later, the same procedure was performed on my right foot. Both times, I walked out of his office with no assistance.

Throughout this experience, Dr. Nadal has been informative, caring and thorough. The painless surgeries were performed in a sterile environment in his office under local anesthesia. Dr Nadal followed up personally 24 hours after each procedure. I experienced no pain during the procedures and very little discomfort during the recovery periods. During the five weeks of followup appointments after each surgery, he and his staff were professional, punctual and welcoming - Jennifer calls to remind you of each appointment!

And the care continues... I have been fitted with orthotics and upon receipt, was able to wear them immediately all day - perfect casting! They provided the support my feet required and when I slip my feet into my shoes, it truly feels like I am "walking on a cloud".
