I'm a pretty picky person, but when it comes to hotels I don't think it's asking much for an establishment to be clean, especially when it belongs to a brand like Marriott. Last week I stayed at the Residence Inn in Cherry Creek (Denver) and it was disgusting.
This week we traveled (for work) to Houston and stayed at the Marriott in the Energy Corridor and I was happy with how clean my room was. The hallways were open, bright and spacious, and smelled really fresh and clean (I hate hotels that have weird musty food smells). Once in my room I checked the mattresses and was happy to see how clean they were over and under the sheets....no hairs, crumbs, not even dust. The fixtures were clean and nothing seemed broken. Same with the bathroom, it was very clean, no mildew stains anywhere in the shower.
The pillows and the bed was very comfortable. And surprisingly, even the vents/air ducts seemed clean, no build up of dust and gunk to be found in them.
Now I'm not saying this room was fancy, it was a very basic room, but one of the most important things on my list when I stay somewhere is cleanliness...and this met the mark. I will say this, the other reviews are true, if you're a light sleeper or don't like a lot of noise, ask for a room far away from the freeway.
