I've been to the Kentucky State Fair every year since I can remember. It really hasn't changed much at all since I've been going, but it is still a fun time. They open around 9 a.m. and they last pretty much all night. There's indoor and outdoor stuff to do but, the outdoor stuff does not open right away. Indoor there's many booths to buy stuff as well as food vendors. There are lots of companies and sponsors that have areas and booths setup. For example there is a police booth that has the Safety Town where kids can ride around on tricycles. Other areas have all the displays of the competitions. The competitions very from quilts, baked goods, Art etc. Outside they have many tents set up with live music, beer and many food booths. There's also the Midway with all the rides, but they do cost money to buy tickets to ride. There is plenty to do for everyone depending on your interests, and it's just a fun time for everyone. The outside area is open till midnight and they have free concerts every night. Parking isn't too bad depending on when you go. I recommend going earlier because the longer you wait the worse the parking gets.
