Last December (2017) I was hit by an impaired driver here in Reston, VA while driving to visit my folks in Leesburg to cook them dinner on a Saturday evening. Talk about bad luck! As a result of the crash, I had multiple breaks and fractures in my right ankle, and a number of torn tendons, etc. I was so depressed, especially as I am a high-anxiety individual, and running is the one and only way that seems to keep me sane. Obviously after my wreck I couldn't run, and I was feeling horrible as I didn't know if I'd ever be able to run at all, let alone well, after such an injury.

Shortly after my wreck, I had gone to another physical therapy office here in Reston for a number of weeks, and felt like I wasn't receiving the best care. I then remembered I had seen Larry Grine at the Virginia Therapy and Fitness Center for some back issues when I was in college and that the care I received was excellent. I thought I should call them, and a few days later I had an appointment with Jaison Alderman early this February. The first thing he asked is what I loved to do, and I told him that I loved running and didn't know if I would do such again. His next question was, "When's your next race?" I told him the Frederick Half Marathon on May 6th. He looked at me very seriously as only Jaison can, and said, "You'll make it! Work hard, and with our help you'll make it!"

And I did make it! And had a blast while doing so. I wasn't even thinking about my ankle the whole of the 13.1 miles. I loved it. I was officially discharged this week, and my "injured" ankle is functioning even better than my non-injured ankle. I am glad to be back running again, and really enjoyed the healing process. Jaison is passionate about what he does, and was a joy to talk with during each of my appointments. I can honestly say I had fun at physical therapy. Crazy. And in case you don't believe me, I've attached photos of my running the Frederick half marathon early last month.
