I ve been a loyal Starwood Gold member for years and always found it to be predictable and reliable for a clean and well kept room. When Marriott took over the properties, I had a hard time knowing the hierarchy of brands. Overall, it seems the former Starwood hotels are being neglected and improvements are mostly with the original Marriott hotels.

When traveling, the comfort and cleanliness of my room is very important. The Sheraton that I stayed at had the usual comfortable bed but the pillows were not the same quality as before. They were lumpy and obviously well used.

The wallpaper and carpeting were dated and I did not have a plunger for my bathtub. Again, I had grown accustomed to having a certain level of quality.

I was most upset because I used 20,000 points one a higher brand than the more economical Marriott properties near the Detroit airport.
