Kaelen Connolly Review of Chicago South Loop Hotel

This hotel was perfect for our need: a place to crash after all 4 days of Lollapalooza. We chose this hotel specifically because it was the cheapest decent-looking hotel, closest to Grant Park. It was about an hour walk to GP, bus and train stations were nearby too (we just like to see the city, and compared to all the walking we did this was nothing).
I was totally satisfied with my stay. However, I'm not a very picky traveller so here are some things to consider if you ARE a picky traveller:
-You can definitely hear noises from the train and nearby hospital. (If you're one to complain about this, I suggest not staying in the city.)
-No breakfast offered.
-TV/remote were kind of old and didn't work great.
-THE PILLOWS ARE HUGE. (Some people like this, not me. I'll bring my own next time.)
-Tub and toilet were also huge. (Again, some may like this but I stubbed my toe getting into the shower and my feet couldn't touch the floor while on the toilet, lol)
-Mini-fridge in room, but no microwave :(
-Only 2-in-1 shampoo and shower gel offered as bathroom amenities.
-Housekeeping was spotty. I'm seeing this as a common theme in reviews everywhere. Two of the days we stayed, we left the "do not disturb" sign on our door because we hadn't made much of a mess, and didn't need clean sheets or towels. The next two days, we removed our sign when we left for the day, between 10:30 and 11 am. Nobody cleaned our room. Since our room wasn't cleaned, we had to get coffee, towels, and a garbage bag from the front desk to tidy up ourselves. Again, not a huge deal to me, but some people may be upset with this (a guy at the front desk certainly was).
-Some Nervous Nellies might not feel safe walking around this neighborhood but I never felt uncomfortable, and rather enjoyed my walk through Chinatown to get to a Walgreens.
So if none of that makes you write this place off, here are some upsides:
-FREE PARKING! And you can park before you check in :)
-Free wifi
-Easy to find (both on initial arrival and when Ubering)
-Comfy bed
-Sarpino's! (Late-night free delivery of okay food)
Overall, a pretty nice stay. Wasn't expecting high-end luxury, and didn't pay a high-end price. If you're a reasonable person looking for a reasonable place to sleep after a full day of Chicago adventures, South Loop Hotel is for you.
