This sanctuary is absolutely fantastic! As a person who likes animals more than people, it's wonderful to see them not stressed, having fun playing, and not propped up in cages to entertain people who look them in the eyes and taunt them at the edge of their perceived territory. If you can't tell, I dislike zoos. The upper walkway is long (about 3 miles round trip) and pretty hard (wood laid over welded steel supports), so if you're fatigued easily this may not be for you. Habitats are large and segregated. Volunteers are all along the path to answer questions and tell you more about where the animals came from (hyenas used in studies, bears weened from nicotene after being trained in circuses), arthritic tigers declawed, etc. I absolutely respect and enjoyed my time here. I only wished that I could have donated more than I did.

FYI, the staff here WILL inform animal control if you're one of those awful people who leave dogs in your car (they're not allowed in the sanctuary or on the grounds). Don't bring your dog, don't leave it in your car.

You should bring: water, mask(s), a good camera, binoculars, sunscreen, and whatever else you deem necessary for the weather that day.
