This wildlife refuge is one of my favorite picnic spots. There are a couple of benches near the main building that face the marsh. Watch the birds as you eat your lunch and then choose one of the easy trails to hike. One of the birds that is common to spot is a blue heron, which you can see up close if you accidentally stumble near one's nest (guilty). It seems like there is always a handful of Canadian geese and various water foul. A great time to go is in the middle of spring, after all the chicks have hatched. Always remember to wear your galoshes because you never know when it will be muddy.
