We arrived from the back end and walked through the inner courtyard area to get to the entrance by the pyramid. We had pre-booked tickets so we were told to go to the entrances in one of the side buildings which presumably goes directly into the exhibits. However, as we had a pram, we were led to the main entrance by the pyramid and was able to skip the line.
The interior was quite breathtaking, particularly under the pyramid. We were able to get the self-guided tour from an information desk but they were kinda hard to use. We pre-booked the guides but they also needed a card (Sister used her driver's license) as collateral. They were really useful when they did work, giving lots of information about the exhibits nearby.
We found it really hard to get anywhere with a pram. We were only able to get out of the area when we carried the pram up some stairs. The exhibits were amazing. We started with some history of the museum and ended up in the basement. This led to the Ancient Egyptian display and the Greek and Roman displays. It was a bit easier to navigate around the museum once we were in this area. We just followed the signs to the Mona Lisa and then had a break before having a quick wander and heading out. We didn't spend that much time since we had a late start and didn't have another day for it.
It wasn't too crowded when we went except for the queue to the Mona Lisa and the cafe. This was between Christmas and New Year. It was busy but it wasn't hard to get around even with a pram. It was easier for us to get around carrying the pram up and down the stairs rather than the elevator (which were kinda hard to find and sometimes didn't reach the right floor).
The museum is huge and would require multiple days if you wanted to see everything. I'm not really an art person but I was amazed and appreciated all the artworks that I passed and looked at. I think I would have been able to just browse the Ancient Greek/Roman area for a day. I think it does have something for everyone because of its rich historical displays.
