John Elle Review of Cheshire Medical Center
Limping badly and hurting alll over my lower body,...
Limping badly and hurting alll over my lower body, I told my regular doctor that I thought I have lyme disease. She knows I live in a rural area and have 3 dogs. She refused medication and even REFUSED TO TEST for lyme. Instead, I was sent out of her office with an appointment for an expensive Xray of ONE! hip. I ignored the Xray distraction, got a course of doxycycline through methods no proper health care professionals should make necessary, could walk correctly and without pain at the end of Day1, and was cured at the end of 9 days.
I have since met other Keene residents with the same story of rejection of testing and treatment for the Lyme disease they had. I have also presented with severe symptoms from other infections - one of which [soon after first arriving in this area] I knew the cause and the treatment - and was told nothing was wrong and was refused treatment. In that first instance, I was forced to acquire the medication on my own that my prior out-of-region doctor had told them was needed. The totally debilitating illness - after many months of agony - was fixed after 10 days of antibiotics.
This was a preview of my Lyme-disease experience and of my current situation. This total indifference has been brought to the attention of hospital administration twice to no avail. One administrator was actually quite explicit about institutional indifference. Now, I am forced to undertake 3 days of travel and much added expense to get the kind of responsible health care that used to exist in ven small towns in America.
It is shameful that Keene's healthcare is dependent on one irresponsible and bureaucratic provider.
