The Saint Pierre Palace before being a museum of fine arts, was a cloister. From the beginning of the second millennium, the ladies of St Pierre, the Benedictines, occupied this building. This real estate complex was partially rebuilt during the 17th century and kept its religious function until the revolution when it was closed. It was during the consulate that it gradually became a real estate complex dedicated to art. It will become the seat of the School of Fine Arts.
This museum is ideally located in the heart of the city, on the Place des Terreaux, at the foot of the Croix Rousse hill, next to the town hall and close to the opera house.
