Today we took our 3 year old and 6 year old grandchildren to experience their favourite book 'the Gruffalo' being brought to life on the stage and encourage them to support our local theatres in the future.

The 6 year old was asking when the scenery would change and the 3 year old couldn't understand why the owl had neither feathers nor wings, the fox had neither fur nor ears and the Gruffalo was not even the right colour. In fact that costume would have been more suited to the owl!
Young children need to see the characters as they appear in the books. They would have been transfixed by that.
The scenery, costumes, lighting and special effects were all very sparse.
