Excellent place to visit very interesting castle...

Excellent place to visit very interesting castle set in lovely grounds very close to the town centre no parking on site but a town carpark just a short walk away at nominal cost free on a sunday is very conveniently located.
If you visit please use the free audio tour because it is really informative but also very funny and entertaining.

There is a tower to climb if you wish to there are 98 steps and not for the infirm or faint hearted but the views from the top are lovely .
There is also a tunnel that runs under the castle and leads to the cellar the tunnel is long and dark and quite narrow in places but just the sort of place a child would love to go down .
Visit and judge for yourself but I found it brilliant .
They do not have a cafe here but they do have a hot drinks machine which is in the lovely little well stocked English Heritage shop, the staff were very helpful in every way
