I HAVE MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT TEXAS CHILDRENS HOSPIT...

I HAVE MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT TEXAS CHILDRENS HOSPITAL. MY SON JUST HAD MAJOR HEART SURGERY AND I HAVE HAD TWO SERIOUS ISSUES SO FAR... FIRST WAS WITH ONE VERY UNPROFESSIONAL NURSE OUR FIRST NIGHT POST OP IN ICU. My son who is 7 years old was in EXTREME PAIN and this nurse refuses to give him pain meds even thought the doctors orders specifically said he could recive them on top of another pain med he was on. This nurse decides to BLATANTLY LIE and say s she is getting a pain med for my son. She administered the med and my son immediately lost all awareness of we re we were and was very upset because he didn t understand what was happening. I knew right away those weren t pain meds. I ask the nurse what she administered and what the medicine was for and she hesitantly said ADIVAN. Which is a heavy anti anxiety med. my son was not having anxiety he was in EXTREME PAIN and she felt it was ok to self diagnose him with anxiety! I then proceed to ask another nurse who I can speak to on the matter and I was sent the charge nurse. She explained there was no reason for this and apologized for the nurse. She Also states that the nurse is quote under ALOT OF STRESS this was a slap in the face for me because how is her personal stress a factor in my sons care situation? I can guarantee mine and my sons stress trumps hers... the charge nurse did speak with her and she comes back in the room with a grudge and then proceeded to ignore me and my husbands questions I asked her to stop what she was doing to my son (stripping his chest tubes) because I didn t feel comfortable with her attitude and hostility. She then calls me liar by saying she never said it was a pain med she was going to administer. I m very non confrontational so all the while I am speaking in a calm and reasonable tone. She then Runs out of the room crying as if we had done something to her! Mind you this is our fist time here at TCH. I was very upset by her behavior and I feel it is unacceptable for nurses to behave in this manner. I had very good experiences with all other nurses and staff. Surgeon dr. Imamura saved my sons life. And I am greatly appreciative of the work him and his team have done for my child. SECOND ISSUE We were moved from 15 floor cardiology on his 3rd day post op to the 10th floor neurology because they needed my sons bed for another child. We were told there were no virus\illness on the unit wich was another lie from his nurse come to find the patient next door has strep throat and many other in the unit have flu and viruses. No one once told us to take precautions on this floor and he is still here recovering from surgery. I pray my son didn t come into contact with these viruses because of his weakened immune system he is very susceptible to virus. I am waiting for family advocacy to come by our room but still no luck. In my opinion there should be better protocol on post op patients being around patients with contagious illnesses like these... I am not a confrontational person at all and I felt very upset by these issues. Again everything except these two individuals was amazing and I am happy my son doing well I am keeping him isolated in our room until we are discharged just to be on the safe side. Masks and hand sanitizer is not enough to keep him from these illnesses I feel. This is just my feed back. In no way am I trying to bash the hospital. It s an exceptional place.
