I just had a horrible experience at Cottage Hospital (Pueblo location)!!! My 30-year-life partner miraculously survived an outside of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) on Thursday and somehow lived. The paramedics arrived and he received excellent Emergency Department care (this review in no way has to do with his care). Because of COVID, I had to deal with this tragedy outside in the hospital parking lot, which I understand. No visitors are allowed inside, and I think this is a good idea. However, my partner was one of the fortunate 5-10 percent to survive an OHCA, and had the sheer luck to make it out of MICU three days later into a regular hospital room, so I don't understand why I can't stand outside his window (many feet away) and talk to him on my cell phone for five minutes. Seriously?!! Are the main entry hospital gatekeepers totally heartless? Me, my brother-in-law, and sister were standing on pavement.... We didn't scale a wall or trample flowers. We literally had no idea we were doing anything wrong. No signs posted. Nothing. The employee even said to our stunned faces that we were on private property and security would come out to talk to us as WE WERE SILENTLY LEAVING. This behavior is unacceptable; the rule stupid. My heart, which did not have an attack, is breaking that a hospital employee could be so cruel and heartless. If this is indeed a hospital policy, it should be POSTED and politely enforced. Plus, exceptions should be made in the case of near-death trauma, so that loved ones can feel loved and supported. Shame.
