Horrible basic manicure. This review is about the spa, not the Hotel ( I love the hotel and service staff - great place). I had my nails done at the spa about two weeks ago. I am a local resident who works downtown; when my regular nail professional got sick I decided to duck into the Daventport for my manicure. First, let me say, the staff was very nice, helpful and they were able to book short notice appointment with no problem. The salon is beautiful and the atmosphere is relaxing.
The young lady who gave me my manicure was very sweet and clearly knew what she was doing. The only snag was when I asked her to carve out the back of my nail to reveal the half-moon style (a la Dita Von Tees/1930's; see my review for Vida Salon and Spa). She could not find a brush to do so, something I found very odd for a salon. Instead she used a q-tip. I applaud her resourcefulness but I was disapointed with the result. I felt that, because she was out of her comfort zone, my gel polish was very messy looking. I had peeling issues and polish on my cuticles; it was pretty disapointing. I would have rather her tell me she couldn't do it without a brush and just painted my nails in a normal fashion. I won't revisit the Davenport Spa for a manicure appointment again; though I probably will for a pedicure, massages or a hair appointment.
