The 'Care" in Care Oregon is contrary to the experience I had as of recent. Last Fall, Kevin in the Portland office suggested a change in a family member's OHP insurance as the many places offering help for brain injuries fall far beneath anything that is needed to reclaim function and balance for recovery. It was he who suggested NW Anxiety clinic. We waited from November 2019 until March of 2020 just to get an interview from the clinic. When it happened, the director on NW Anxiety stated that clinic would need a psychological eval to determine the areas of the brain and the cognitive pieces that were compromised, other wise they would not know how to treat. I emailed Kevin at Care Oregon to tell what happened. His reply was concerning as it withdrew this idea and stated we should stick with contracted places already within the plan. So why would he direct us to change insurances and wait , only to withdraw it and redirect us to what has clearly NOT served as effective treatment, as if our investment and hope for good care did not matter. The 'hope' and belief that possibilities for better treatment are possible is what keeps many clients who severely suffer from the consequences of a volatile impact on the brain trying. To set clients up with these possibilities, when so much has been a waste of time due to poor treatment, and withdraw this, is exactly what seeds the alienation that drives clients to hopelessness. The detachment from the reality of what it is like for a patient to WAIT and WAIT and hold on to hope, is concerning. This is one reason many in Oregon turn to suicide. A employee from Care Oregon builds hope but is totally uneducated at what the emotional wait is for the patient. Then , they dismiss the idea(after the long wait ) as if the patient does not matter. I have talked to so many young people at Unity and other places and many have experienced this same thing. I went to the supervisor, "Michael" who dismissed my concerns and must have told Kevin not to contact me. This Michael has NO interest in my complaint and talked over me and told me he was going to hang up on me but before doing so, wanted to give me the ombudsman's number. This si how OHP deals with any complaints or issues...,.,avoidance! I am concerned at the fabricated and polished image Care Oregon gives itself, yet has a high tolerance for this unethical and unprofessional behavior. Just yesterday I read the PBS story of how the highest cause of death in Oregonian of a young age was suicide. Michael is a reason why. Having a supervisor who handles issues in this manner delivers a 'hopelessness' many seeking help can not withstand. To jerk around with the efforts of the many with severe anxiety in this manner as Michale did, clearly needs to be addressed if Oregon is ever to evaluate above being the worst state in the country for mental health help. Care Oregon also sponsors the 'WINGS" program I believe. How can a health institution simultaneously advocate for good and balanced health and sabotage the hope of the most vulnerable clients? Michael dismissed this issue in such a unprofessional manner, it is stunning to witness the callous in the personalities of some employed to heap this fragile population. it is no wonder Oregon ranks last for effective and steady mental health, and first in your suicide!
