Found an ad on auto trader for a vehicle listed as a private sale. Inquire and turns out it's actually a dealer with Southgate Volkswagen.

Decided to go take a look anyway since the price seemed right, even though I've had bad experiences with shady and scamming dealers. I was repeatedly assured this dealership is different and family owned. They care about customers.

Made arrangements for about 3-330pm as I was told a wholesaler is coming for this vehicle tomorrow morning, unless the vehicle sells before the morning. Contacted back quickly to see about coming within about 45 mins and was told that was good. I was told there were a couple other people that showed interest.

Maybe 10 mins later I am contacted to say sales guy went to get the vehicle ready but found the vehicle was picked up this morning by a wholesaler. Sales guy said he'll keep an eye out for another van that gets traded in.

Yea, no thanks. Sounds like another scummy dealership trying to rope people in claiming to be a private sale and selling a vehicle for a great price but wanting to upsell.

Keagan, please don't contact me with anything that might come in as a trade. I will not be dealing with your dealership, and even as I look for Volkswagens for my 5 youngest kids as they start driving, I certainly won't be dealing with your dealership ever. Thanks but no thanks. You haven't changed my mind like you said, and you've actually reinforced that all car sales people are the same.

I do appreciate you informing me before I wasted time driving there, but perhaps that was because I made it very clear I was not interested in a typical dealer's bait and swap.

As a long time owner of Volkswagen cars, from my first car that was a 1986 Jetta, to the jetta purchased for my child's first car less than a month ago, I truly had higher expectations from a dealership of a vehicle i have been loyal to.
