So, Webster Hall. I've been here over a dozen times at this point and it is really hit-or-miss. It all depends on why you're coming here, what your expectations are, and what your style is. If you're coming to see a band or artist perform in the main stage area (the Grand Ballroom), then you should be good, in general. The sound is good, the lights are nice and bright, and there's plenty of room to stand assuming it's not sold out. All other times, place is a crapshoot. If you're trashy or bro-y, this place is perfect for you. The crowds are simply rude, mostly unattractive, and are there for seemingly no other reason than they have to be out on a Friday or Saturday night. If you're looking to dance, there are smaller rooms throughout the venue that have their own thing going (90s night is fun and if you like hip-hop, downstairs is pretty dope) but for the most part, people there don't give a crap about the music. Seeing a famous DJ upstairs? Expect phones constantly taking pictures/videos and people uncomfortably pushing and being annoying. Stay there long enough and you'll see people nearly unconscious from the drugs/alcohol they have ingested. Drinks are super expensive, coat check is $4 before 10 pm and $6 after 10 pm. Downstairs bathrooms are emptier than the one upstairs.
None of these issues crop up on regular show weeknights, but if you mix in with the club crowd (after 10 pm weekends mostly), expect to leave in disgust.
