The institute is one of its kind in being the forerunner for conducting research on forestry and other disciplines related to it, with the likes of Ecology and Climate Change,Forest protection, Soil science and soil microbiology,Agroforestry,Shifting cultivation and Genetic tree breeding. Various national coordinted projects are going on in this institute. In addition to research, extension towards educating people about forestry and its allied sciences is a regular activity here.
