Skip this one, go to something like the Getty Center instead. This was a lot of string lights hanging from the ceiling and mirrors connected to monitors on the floor... I was really not into the "modern contemporary art" vibe of this place. If you have ever been to something like the Art Institute of Chicago this will REALLY just disappoint you...LACMA calls itself encyclopedic in its approach, but this didn't translate the way you would think. It was a jumble of poorly curated art, displayed in really unimaginative and uninteresting ways. There was way too much empty wall space and not enough art, the exhibits just ended up feeling tiny in a huge warehouse-like space and I found myself feeling pretty bored. The descriptions of the art was also very puzzling, tiny fonts in square shapes with everyone huddling to the two corners of each exhibit while the ushers in each exhibit just stare like they think you're about to steal something...I'm all for securing the pieces but 6-7 ushers in a space with maybe 3 pieces of "art" if you want to call it that...I really couldn't help but laugh and roll my eyes. All in all, we paid $15 for each ticket plus $16 for parking and when we got back to our car we both had to laugh because it was almost insulting how much it ended up costing us to see this...stuff. In summary $46 dollars later and I feel like I gained a better understanding of what the word pretentious means to me. I guess there's that at least.
