The Eiffel Tower a landmark attraction in Paris. I...

The Eiffel Tower a landmark attraction in Paris. It is so prominent on the city landscape that you won't help but be able to see it numerous times during your visit to the city.

This is the tallest structure in Paris at 324 metres. Constructed in 1889 for the World Expo in Paris, this was at one time the tallest structure in the world. Designed by Gustave Eiffel, the wrought-iron lattice tower is a masterpiece of late 19th-century architecture.

Having gone up the tower numerous times before, we opted to simply enjoy from outside during our most recent stay in Paris. During this visit we were saddened but understanding of the bulletproof barrier that had been setup around the Eiffel Tower. This wasn't there the last time we were here 5 years ago and means freely strolling under the tower is no longer an option for visitors. Now you have to stay outside the boundary, only entering the immediate grounds after passing through a long security queue.

A visit up the Eiffel Tower is something that that I'd recommend to all first time visitors of the city. The views of the city and being up close to this monumental landmark is a remarkable experience worth setting aside the necessary time. The experience is rather different but equally impressive during the day and night.

Note: If you are only wanting to see the Eiffel Tower from up close, the closest Metro Station is Bir Hakeim just 5 minutes away. For views and photographs which include the full height of the tower you need to walk back along Parc Champs de Mars to the east or walk along Pont d'Lena to the west. You'll shortly find yourself in position to take good pictures with the Eiffel Tower.
