I visit the BBC frequently to watch Radio Shows being recorded. The security checks and waiting around are a drag, but I fully appreciate the requirements.

Inside the building, the Media Cafe and a small BBC shop are available to the public. The former is typically priced for a London cafe and offers a view across the Newsroom. If you're lucky you will see one of the Newsreaders (they hang out on the table nearest the window) and you can just about make them out whislt they are on air.The BBC shop has a few items of memorabilia from a variety of TV shows. It's expensive, but no more than anywhere else.

Tours of the building are available, for a price, but I haven't tried them
