I just sent this complaint to the FTC regarding Compattelrunner.exe, which I quite frankly regard as malware (installed without permission, and has undesirable effects).

Microsoft Update installes an executable, Compattelrunner.exe, on my computer without my permission; the Windows Update function ignores my setting, "Download updates but let me choose whether to install them." This executable serves no legitimate purpose and it degrades my computer's performance by using more than 70% of the CPU while causing noticable performance problems (e.g. programs running slowly or hanging up). I have uninstalled the responsible update (KB2952664) but found it on my computer again today--this is the fourth time I have found Compattelrunner.exe, and at least the second I have found KB2952664. Now I cannot even uninstall it; I tried to do so from the Control Panel and was told without explanation, "An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled." Microsoft has ignored complaints about this issue, and is now not even letting me remove the unwanted program from my computer.
