It was a sad experience. The zoo is tiny, the enclosures are far too small for the animals and they put them inside little houses about an hour before closing. There was one elephant, the lions were skinny and pacing in a corner and it was just a reminder of how zoos were in the 80s. Rome really needs to invest in their animal welfare! So sad.
