I boarded my 2 dogs Blaze a intact Wirehaired Pointing Griffon and Barney a neutered border collie mix back in July 2012. I received report cards that said every thing was great and both dogs were doing well loving the swimming I purchased as a activity for them as well as the one on one time I purchased as a activity.
Both dogs were boarded for 9 days in the same run and on the day I returned I decided to pick up that evening. I called the facility well in advance and said I would be picking up the dogs and that was fine with them. They said they would have the dogs ready to go. I picked up around 6:15pm Blaze was not acting like himself but I thought it was due to the comotion of another dog being there. His face was wet and when I asked about him being wet the person on duty said it must have been from him swimming that day. No problem so I drove the 45 minutes home.
That is when I found that my dog Blaze's TESTICALS WERE BURNT. It was after hours and I called and left a message I also followed up with a email and pictures date stamped so they could see it was from the evening of my return.
I received a call first thing in the morning and the person I spoke to was very apoligetic and said I would be receiving a call from the owner later that day. Dee called and also was very apoligetic and said she would take care of the vet bill and they did give me $300 off my boarding bill. I was still upset that my dog had suffered so much while at their facility but was satisfied at the speed and manor of how they handled the situation. I was told the name of the chemical they used to clean the runs because I suspected it might be the cause of these serious burns.
I looked up the MSDS of the chemical they use to clean the facility and it states it is Caustic and will cause burns if it makes contact with skin. Dee didn't seem to think it was the cleaner as she had never had anything like this happen before so that cleaner was still being used.
I think this report is necessary for those whose dogs are intact to make extra precaustions to be sure your dog is safe.
